HVAC-Integrated VHP System

Integrates a hydrogen peroxide generator with the HVAC system, using its airflow circulation to distribute VHP vapor through the space and ductwork for room- and surface-level bio-decontamination. Available in standard 1,000 m³ and 2,000 m³ models, with larger volumes available on request.

Overview

The HVAC-Integrated VHP System integrates a hydrogen peroxide generator with the existing HVAC system. Using the HVAC airflow circulation, it distributes vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) through the space to be treated and the associated ductwork. VHP vapor's oxidizing action acts on the cell membranes, proteins and nucleic acid structures of microorganisms; cycles can be developed and validated to a stated log-reduction target against a specified biological indicator, with actual performance subject to project-specific validation. After the cycle, residual hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and oxygen. The system consists of a rotary dehumidifier, HEPA filters, a high-pressure blower, CPVC tubing and a VHP vaporization unit, with major components sourced from internationally recognized brands. It is currently available in three standard capacities — 1,000/2,000/3,000 m³ — with larger volumes available on request.

Bio-decontamination Process

  1. Preparation and dehumidification — the operator switches the HVAC control panel to VHP mode; the system automatically prepares and self-checks the generator, valves and sensors; the HVAC system dehumidifies, bringing the target space to a temperature above 25°C and humidity below 50%
  2. Conditioning — once temperature and humidity are within range, the HVAC system signals the start of the cycle; VHP vapor is distributed through the ductwork to each room in the target area and brought up to the target concentration
  3. Bio-decontamination (hold) — the generator continuously replenishes VHP, holding concentration at the target level as vapor continues circulating through the area, supporting coverage of duct interiors, room corners, equipment surfaces and other complex areas
  4. Aeration — VHP injection stops, the HVAC system switches to aeration mode, the VHP tubing valve closes, and fresh-air/exhaust dampers open to introduce fresh air and purge residual vapor until the concentration falls below 1 ppm
  5. Return to production — the HVAC system switches back to normal production mode; where multiple areas exist, each can be treated in sequence under automated control

Core Components & Technical Features

  • Hydrogen peroxide vaporization unit: flash-vaporization technology rapidly vaporizes a 30–35% hydrogen peroxide solution, distributing it through HVAC ductwork and past HEPA filters; multiple vaporization units can be configured according to the size of the space
  • HVAC integration: connects directly to the existing HVAC ductwork without major renovation, injecting VHP vapor into the main supply duct via CPVC tubing
  • Intelligent control and monitoring: 12-inch industrial touchscreen with real-time monitoring of cycle time, temperature, humidity and hydrogen peroxide concentration; control-system data logging can be configured to support FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic-record requirements
  • Available in standard 1,000 m³ and 2,000 m³ models, with 3,000 m³ and larger volumes available on request; large-area treatment cycles typically complete in 3–8 hours; dry-cycle process designed for low corrosion risk and good material compatibility under controlled conditions, with full-process automation

Mobile VHP Unit vs. HVAC-Integrated VHP System

ComparisonIntegrated (HVAC-linked)Mobile Unit
VHP deliveryCirculated via HVAC, delivered through pre-installed CPVC tubing to the target areaManually wheeled to the target area, VHP released by its own diffusion system
UniformityDelivered to every room via the HVAC system, which is designed to give even distribution without excessive local concentrationMay require auxiliary fans; diffusion can be less even in spaces with many rooms/doors, and supply/return ducts can be harder to reach with a single unit
Cycle timeEffective run time <120 minEffective run time >120 min
Treatment volumeUp to 5,000 m³ per unitTypically up to 300 m³ per unit
Panel corrosion riskDry cycle with HVAC-controlled temperature/humidity, designed to limit condensation and associated corrosion risk to nearby cleanroom panelsHumidity rises during the cycle and condensation is more likely, which can increase corrosion risk to panels near the unit
ReproducibilityCycle parameters (airflow, valve states) can be fixed, supporting consistent cycle-to-cycle performancePlacement, weather and season can introduce more cycle-to-cycle variation
Labor requirementAutomated, unattended operation; HVAC returns to production mode after the cycleRequires manual placement, per-unit dosing checks and removal after the cycle, with manual HVAC switchover
Operating locationStarted from the HVAC control roomStarted at each unit inside the target area; placement should be kept consistent
ConvenienceServing more than 2 spaces typically only requires switching valvesLimited units must be moved to the next space in sequence
ScalabilityNew facility areas can share the system by extending VHP injection tubingNew facility areas can share the unit, but it must be moved manually
